A playful series of classroom puzzles where pupils learn logic and problem-solving through story and teamwork.

The Data Escape Rooms turn data education into adventure.
Created by Data Education in Schools, Kate Farrell, and Jasmine Camwell, the project invites pupils to solve logic and data puzzles while racing against the villainous VIKINGS — guided by the heroic Agents of D.A.T.A.

Across printable and digital missions, learners practise data literacy, reasoning, and collaboration through play.

THE CHALLENGE

Teachers already loved the escape-room concept, but the existing puzzles needed visual storytelling that could capture young imaginations and make the activities easy to use in class.
The design brief: make learning look irresistible — professional, accessible, and fun — while keeping all materials free for schools worldwide.
We began by designing the cast of characters — the daring Agents of D.A.T.A. and their nemeses, the VIKINGS — establishing a bright, comic-book tone.
From there, every worksheet, poster, and certificate followed the same visual world: bold colours, clear icons, and humour woven through the missions.
Each puzzle is available both digitally and as a printable sheet, giving teachers total flexibility for classroom or home use.
The guiding principle: learning should feel like play, not work.

THE OUTCOME

  • Printable escape-room packs for classroom or home use

  • Digital activity set with matching design assets

  • Certificates, posters, and mission sheets for each challenge

  • Character illustrations and brand world for Agents of D.A.T.A. vs VIKINGS

  • Fully open-access and freely downloadable for educators worldwide

  • Visual Anchor: a pupil using the escape-room sheets in action — hands, laughter, motion — supported by flat-lay images of stacked resources on a bright background.
